The marks are not where the syllabus says they are.
The organisers have never published a marks breakdown, so every weightage table you have seen is somebody’s count of a past paper — and when those counts are checked against the papers, they do not hold. This book counts the papers instead, and shows you the working.

Where the eighty-five technical marks actually land
Five GATE EC papers were read one question at a time, each question assigned to a section of the 2027 syllabus and to a topic inside it, and every assignment checked against that year’s official answer key — 65 questions, 100 marks, General Aptitude at exactly 15. This is what they show.

Counted from GATE EC 2010, 2019, 2020, 2025 and 2026, question by question, each checked against that year’s official answer key. General Aptitude was exactly 15 marks in all five.
If that disagrees with the plan you are already following, that disagreement is the most valuable thing this book can give you, and it costs nothing to check: every figure names the paper and the question it came from.
Why the published tables were thrown away
Five compilation sites were pulled and 478 raw marks observations recorded before any of it was interpreted. None of it is used, and the reason is not that the sites are dishonest — it is that two specific, checkable failures make them unusable as evidence.
A 2026 column that is not a count of 2026
One site’s 2026 row is identical to its own 2025 row in all nine sections, digit for digit, while its 2023, 2024 and 2025 rows differ from one another throughout. That is a value carried forward, not a paper counted.
Four figures for 2020, one ancestor
Four sites publish 105, 90, 90 and 84. The shared core totals 90 where the paper’s technical sections give 85, and the excess is located: Control Systems, published at 12, counted at 6. One subject double-counted and one section dropped, propagated four ways and read as agreement.
Copying converts one error into four sources, and four sources look like corroboration. That is why this book never calls a compilation figure cross-checked, and why it counts papers instead.
One thing the counting found
GATE 2027 is set by IIT Madras. Exactly one of the five counted papers — 2019 — was also set by IIT Madras, and it does not look like the others. It is the flattest paper in the set: every technical section lands between nine and fourteen marks, where the other four each have a section above thirteen and a section below eight. It asked no Thevenin, no Norton, no maximum power transfer and no resonance. Its analog section contained no operational amplifier and no BJT at all. And it asked two FIR filter-design questions, six years before the 2027 syllabus got round to naming filter design.
One paper is a signal, not a law, and the book says so wherever it uses it. But a candidate budgeting for 2027 should know that the institute writing it has, once, written a paper with no peaks to aim at — and one of the ten mock tests is built to that shape so that you meet it before the hall.
What is in it
- The official 2027 syllabus, reproduced, with every change from 2026 mapped word by word from the two official PDFs — twelve phrases added and five removed, each named.
- Nine subject chapters — the eight technical sections and General Aptitude — each with its counted weightage year by year, a topic-level concept map with question numbers, a frequency and recurrence analysis, and a prediction table.
- 275 questions with full worked solutions and four confidence figures each.
- Ten full-length mock tests — 650 more questions — in the exact 2027 pattern, with keys and worked solutions. Every distractor is the output of a named mistake, and the solution says which.
- The 78 concepts that recur, ranked, with the reason for each rank.
- A twenty-week study plan, with an eight-week and a two-week version, every hour of it derived rather than asserted — and a last-minute revision sheet.
- A sources chapter that tells you how to check any number in the book against a document you can download free.
What it does not have
Said here rather than left for you to discover after paying.
- It counts five papers, not all of them. 2021 to 2024 are not counted and are cited nowhere in the book.
- It has no printed figures. Every circuit is described in words, node by node, as a GATE question describes one when it carries no figure.
- It does not know the 2027 paper. Nothing in it is guaranteed to appear. Every forward-looking statement is labelled a prediction, and the confidence figure that matters most is the one the book caps lowest.
Questions people ask before buying
Is this book made of past GATE questions?
No. Every one of the 925 questions was written for this book, and none reproduces a past paper. What is taken from the past is the pattern: where the marks land, which concepts recur, and in what format each section asks them. Where a question’s tag names a past year, it names the year in which the underlying concept was examined, with the question number, so you can check it.
How many past papers were counted, and why not more?
Five: GATE EC 2010, 2019, 2020, 2025 and 2026. Each was read one question at a time and checked against its official answer key. The papers from 2021 to 2024 are not counted here and are cited nowhere in the book; adding them is the next edition’s work. Five years counted honestly are worth more than ten remembered, and the book says which is which on every line.
Why not use the published subject-wise weightage tables?
Because they do not survive checking. One site’s 2026 column is identical to its own 2025 column in all nine sections, digit for digit, which is a value carried forward rather than a paper counted. Four sites give four different figures for 2020 — 105, 90, 90 and 84 — which are not four measurements but one table copied four times, with one subject double-counted and General Aptitude dropped. Section 16 shows the arithmetic.
Does it have mock tests?
Ten, each a full-length 65-question, 100-mark, 180-minute paper in the 2027 pattern, with an answer key and a worked solution for every question. Each key is generated from its own solutions rather than typed, so a key and its solution cannot disagree.
Are there diagrams?
No. Every circuit, network and block diagram is described in words, element by element and node by node, the way a GATE question describes one when it carries no figure. That is deliberate — a described circuit cannot be misread off a small screen — but if you want figures, you should know before buying that these are not here.
What does “prediction confidence” mean?
Every question in the subject chapters carries four figures: how confident the book is that the topic is examined at all, that this concept within it is examined, that it comes in something like this shape, and that a question close to this one appears. They never rise from left to right, and the last is capped at 35 per cent everywhere, because GATE repeats concepts and not wording. A book whose figures break that rule is not measuring anything.
