No published weightage table says which set its numbers came from — so a table reporting one figure for a year has either averaged two papers or counted one and called it the year, and you cannot tell which. This book counts all 16 papers, both sets, and prints the spread.

Where the eighty-five technical marks actually land
Sixteen GATE Civil papers — both sets, 2019 to 2026 — were read one question at a time, each question assigned to a section of the 2027 syllabus and to a topic inside it, and every assignment checked against that year’s official answer key. This is what they show.

Counted from all 16 GATE CE papers, 2019 to 2026, both sets in every year — 1,040 questions, question by question, each checked against that year’s official answer key. Range is the spread across the sixteen papers: the number a table that does not distinguish the two sets cannot give you. General Aptitude was exactly 15 marks in all sixteen.
Read the Range column as carefully as the mean. Construction Materials and Management averages 3.5 marks and has ranged over 7 — it has been worth nothing in one paper and seven in another. Structural Engineering averages 15.1 and ranges over 7 as well. A mean tells you how to budget your months; the range tells you how wrong a single paper can make that budget, and a table that reports one number per year cannot show it to you at all.
Twenty-five marks of recent papers are no longer on the syllabus
The 2027 syllabus was compared with 2026 word by word, by a program, from the two official PDFs. Nine phrases are gone, twenty-nine are new, and 117 carry over unchanged. Two of the removals matter more than the rest.
Prestressed concrete: gone, and worth 14 marks
The 2026 Concrete Structures line ends “Bond and development length; Prestressed concrete beams.” The 2027 line ends “Bond and development length.” Seven of the sixteen counted papers set a prestressed question worth two marks. If you are practising from past papers, you will meet it seven times.
Transportation Planning: new, and never examined
2027 adds four-step travel demand modelling — trip generation, trip distribution, mode choice, traffic assignment. Across all 1,040 counted questions it has drawn zero marks. There is no past paper to practise and no established question pattern, in a section worth ten marks.
Past papers tell you what to skip as reliably as they tell you what to study. The syllabus tells you what no past paper can. This book prints both, with the evidence for every line and the counter-argument wherever there is one.
One thing the counting found
GATE 2027 is organised by IIT Madras, which also set both 2019 papers — two of the sixteen in the counted record. Those two are the only papers in the set written by the institute writing 2027, and the book gives them a chapter of their own: what that pair did with each section, where they differ from the other fourteen, and where they differ from each other, which is the part a single-paper analysis cannot reach.
Two papers are a signal, not a law, and the book says so wherever it uses them.
What is in it
- The official 2027 syllabus, reproduced, with every change from 2026 mapped word by word from the two official PDFs — nine phrases removed and twenty-nine added, each named, with the 2026 wording beside it.
- Nine subject chapters — the eight technical sections and General Aptitude — each with its counted weightage across all sixteen papers and a topic-level breakdown.
- A topic-level analysis of every section: which topics carry the marks inside it, which are rising or falling over eight years, and which have been examined in every single counted year.
- 274 questions with full worked solutions and four confidence figures each, plus a chapter explaining exactly what those figures mean and what they cannot support.
- Ten full-length mock tests — 650 more questions — in the exact 2027 pattern, built to the counted section weights, with keys and worked solutions. Every distractor is the output of a named mistake, and the solution says which.
- The hundred questions to work first, with the quota for each section taken from that section’s own counted weight, so an hour on the list is divided the way the marks are.
- A what-not-to-skip chapter, including the 25 marks that can now be skipped and the twenty-nine newly named topics that cannot.
- A staged revision plan and a last-minute sheet of formulae and code constants, every value taken from a question worked in the book rather than from memory.
- A sources chapter that tells you how to check any number in the book against a document you can download free.
What it does not have
Said here rather than left for you to discover after paying.
- It has no printed figures. Every structure, flow net and section is described in words, member by member, as a GATE question describes one when it carries no figure.
- It does not reach back before 2019. Earlier Civil papers are cited nowhere.
- It does not know the 2027 paper. Nothing in it is guaranteed to appear. Every forward-looking statement is labelled a prediction, the confidence figures are called estimates because that is what they are, and the one that matters most is the one the book caps lowest.
- Twenty-four of the 1,040 counted questions could honestly have gone to a second section, and one could not be placed on any 2027 topic at all. All twenty-five are printed as such rather than quietly absorbed.
Questions people ask before buying
Is this book made of past GATE questions?
No. Every one of the 924 questions was written for this book, and none reproduces a past paper. What is taken from the past is the pattern: where the marks land, which concepts recur, and in what format each section asks them. Where a question’s tag names a past year, it names the year in which the underlying concept was examined — with the set and the question number, so you can check it.
How many past papers were counted?
Sixteen. Every GATE Civil paper from 2019 to 2026, both sets in each of the eight years, 1,040 questions and 1,600 marks. Each was read one question at a time and checked against its official answer key, and each count was made to close on 65 questions, 100 marks, 30 at one mark and 35 at two, with General Aptitude at exactly 15. A count that does not close has a mistake in it; all sixteen close.
Why does “both sets” matter so much?
Because Civil is examined in two sessions with two different question papers, CE-1 and CE-2, each with its own official key — and no published weightage table the author has seen says which set its figures come from. A table that reports one number for “2024” has either averaged two papers or counted one and called it the year, and you cannot tell which from the table. This book counts both sets in all eight years and prints the spread beside every mean, so you can see how much a single paper varies.
Does it have mock tests?
Ten, each a full-length 65-question, 100-mark, 180-minute paper in the 2027 pattern, with an answer key and a worked solution for every question — 650 questions in all. Each paper is built to the counted section weights rather than to a guess, each key is generated from its own solutions rather than typed, and the correct option is spread evenly across A, B, C and D, so guessing one letter throughout scores what guessing deserves.
Are there diagrams?
No. Every beam, truss, flow net, Mohr circle and pavement section is described in words, member by member and node by node, the way a GATE question describes one when it carries no figure. That is deliberate — a described structure cannot be misread off a small screen — but if you want drawings, you should know before buying that these are not here.
What changed in the 2027 Civil syllabus?
Nine phrases are gone, twenty-nine are new, and 117 carry over unchanged — compared word by word by a program, from the two official PDFs. The consequences are specific: prestressed concrete is gone, and so is free vibration of a single-degree-of-freedom system, which together account for 22 of the 25 counted marks now outside the syllabus. Transportation Planning is new, and across all 1,040 counted questions it has drawn zero marks — so no amount of previous-year practice will prepare you for it. The book prints the whole diff and the evidence for each line.
What does “prediction confidence” mean?
Every question in the subject chapters carries four figures: how confident the book is that the topic is examined at all, that this concept within it is examined, that it comes in something like this shape, and that a question close to this one appears. They never rise from left to right, and the last is capped at 35 per cent everywhere — the highest one in the book is 18 per cent — because GATE repeats concepts and not wording. They are the author’s estimates from the counted record and the syllabus, not a fitted model, and a chapter of the book is given to saying exactly what they cannot support.
