GATE GUIDE
Mechanical Engineering · February 2027

The 2027 ME syllabus changed. Its heaviest section gained the most.

Against 2026, the 2027 ME syllabus adds 30 phrases and removes 5, and 12 of the additions — among them the new paragraphs on Additive Manufacturing and on Computer Aided Manufacturing and Automation — land in Materials, Manufacturing and Metrology, the section the counted papers already weight most, at 17.4 marks a year. This book counts six papers question by question, and prints the syllabus comparison phrase by phrase.

Where the eighty-five technical marks actually land

Six GATE ME papers — both 2022 sets, and 2023 to 2026 — were read one question at a time, each question assigned to a section of the 2027 syllabus, and every question’s marks checked against the official answer key. This is what they show, paper by paper.

Marks per section in six GATE ME papers: both 2022 sets (22 S1, 22 S2) and 2023 to 2026 (columns 23 to 26), counted question by question, with each question’s marks and type taken from the official answer key. Every paper closes on 65 questions and 100 marks, with General Aptitude at exactly 15. Mean is per year: the two 2022 sets are averaged first, so 2022 is not counted twice.

Read the paper columns as carefully as the mean. Materials, Manufacturing and Metrology, Engineering Mathematics and Thermodynamics and Applications carry the most marks on average. Engineering Mathematics was worth 13 marks in all six papers; most sections were not so steady — Mechanics of Materials went 6 → 6 → 15 → 6 → 7 → 8. A mean tells you how to budget your months; the columns tell you how far a single paper has strayed from it.

What the 2027 syllabus changed

The 2026 and 2027 syllabus PDFs were compared phrase by phrase, by a program: 30 phrases added, 5 removed. The 2024, 2025 and 2026 syllabi are identical to each other, so the 2024, 2025 and 2026 papers were all set on the syllabus 2027 has now revised.

New in 2027

Additive Manufacturing and Computer Aided Manufacturing and Automation become paragraphs of their own, adding pneumatic, electro-pneumatic and hydraulic actuators and programmable logic controllers. Vibrations adds the PID controller and transfer functions; Heat Transfer adds boiling and condensation; the thermodynamics applications add the basics of combustion; production planning adds work study and Six Sigma.

Gone, or moved

Lagrange’s equation and Heisler’s charts are no longer named. The other three removed phrases reappear under new headings: additive manufacturing under its own paragraph, and inventory control’s deterministic models and safety stock under Production Planning and Control.

Past papers can only show the syllabus they were set on. For what 2027 names for the first time, the syllabus is the only guide there is.

Six papers, five different setters

GATE ME 2022 was organised by IIT Kharagpur, 2023 by IIT Kanpur, 2024 by IISc Bengaluru, 2025 by IIT Roorkee and 2026 by IIT Guwahati. GATE 2027 is organised by IIT Madras, which set none of the six — so no counted paper shows how the 2027 setter writes one.

Questions people ask before buying

How many past papers were counted?

Six: both sets of GATE ME 2022, and the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 papers. Each was read one question at a time, each question assigned to a section of the 2027 syllabus, and each question’s marks and type taken from the official answer key. Every count closes on 65 questions and 100 marks, with General Aptitude at exactly 15.

Why print every paper instead of one average?

Because an average hides how far one paper moves. Across these six, Mechanics of Materials went 6 → 6 → 15 → 6 → 7 → 8 marks and Industrial Engineering 8 → 8 → 2 → 8 → 6 → 10. The book prints the per-year mean too, with the two 2022 sets averaged first so that 2022 is not counted twice.

Did the syllabus change for 2027?

Yes. The 2026 and 2027 syllabus PDFs were compared phrase by phrase: 30 phrases were added and 5 removed. Additive Manufacturing and Computer Aided Manufacturing and Automation now have paragraphs of their own, with pneumatic and hydraulic actuators and programmable logic controllers named for the first time; Vibrations now names the PID controller and transfer functions; Heat Transfer adds boiling and condensation; the thermodynamics applications add the basics of combustion. Lagrange’s equation and Heisler’s charts are gone. The 2024, 2025 and 2026 syllabi, on which the 2024 to 2026 papers were set, are identical to each other. The book prints the whole comparison.

Does it have mock tests?

Ten, each a full-length 65-question, 100-mark paper in the GATE ME pattern, with a worked solution for every question — 650 questions in all.

How many practice questions are there?

292, across eleven subject chapters — the ten technical sections and General Aptitude — each with a worked solution. With the mock tests, that is 942 questions.

How do I get the book after paying?

The download opens as soon as the payment is confirmed. It is a PDF, licensed for your personal use, and it downloads once, so save it on your device. If you need it again, or anything goes wrong, message +91 70339 35778 on WhatsApp with your payment id.
